A smuggler with 12 kg of heroin worth Rs.60 crore in the international market was arrested in Punjab, police said Sunday.

The arrest was made on the Amritsar-Tarn Taran road late Saturday. The police also recovered two Chinese made pistols and ammunition from the smuggler.

"The heroin consignment was being taken from Jammu and Kashmir to Delhi. It was smuggled into India from the Pakistani side," a police official said.

The Punjab Police have recently launched a campaign against drug abuse in the state. A close watch is being kept on suspected smugglers in the border belt of the state comprising districts of Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Ferozepur.
