Six Arrested In Haryana For Gang-raping, Selling Woman

IANS, 14 Dec, 2014 02:45 PM
Haryana Police have arrested six people for their alleged involvement in the gang rape and sale of a woman from Maharashtra. Three of them also killed the woman's minor son, an official said Sunday.

A police spokesman said the woman had come to Rewari railway station (in southern Haryana) from Maharashtra a few days back.

"She met Mukesh, a truck driver and resident of Kheejuri village, who took her to his house. After some days when Mukesh went out of town, his brother Satish started living there. One day, Satish called his friends Jaipal and Hawa Singh, both residents of Kheejuri, and they consumed liquor. Later, they gang-raped the woman and strangled her son," the spokesman said.

The three then allegedly sold the woman to Sandeep, a resident of Alwar district in Rajasthan, through another person named Surajbhan.

"The crime came to light when the village sarpanch informed police. Officials found the child's body and located the woman in Rajasthan. Her medical examination confirmed that she was gang-raped," the spokesman said.

Police arrested the sixth accused, Dayabhan, who also hails from Alwar district.

History will be kinder to me, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stated at his final press conference earlier this year. As he ends his decade-long tenure as head of two successive UPA governments, his stock as a middle class hero stood severely diminished due to a floundering economy, shrinking opportunities and the acts of omission and commission of colleagues in the government and party.
