Set Up A Caucus In US Congress For Sikhs: Balwant Singh Ramoowalia To Republican Congressman

Darpan News Desk IANS, 17 Oct, 2017 12:09 PM
Urging the United States Congress to consider creating a caucus for Sikhs, former Union Minister Balwant Singh Ramoowalia urged senior Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher to take a lead in creating the group there.

Ramoowalia, who organised a meeting with the visiting Congressman, said it is time for the elected representatives to crate the caucus so that issues relating to the community could be better highlighted both among the law-makers and the people.

Rohrabacher, serving his 13th term in the House represents the 48th District of California.

There have been attacks on members of the community, including the ghastly attack five years ago at a gurdwara in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in which followers lost lives.

According to reports from the United States, the community continued its outreach programme since the attack.

While presenting a ‘siropa’ and replica of the Golden Temple to the visiting Congressman, the former Union minister said Representative Rohrabacher has been at the forefront of an effort to promote the distinct identity of Sikhs and spreading awareness among the people about the community known for their industriousness and hard work.
