Saudi Arabia Announces Amnesty To 850 Indian Prisoners

Darpan News Desk IANS, 20 Feb, 2019 09:43 PM

The visiting Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman has announced amnesty to 850 Indian prisoners in Saudi jails. The maximum number of Indian prisoners overseas -- over 2,000 -- is in Saudi Arabia.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the amnesty, a "big takeaway" from the visit, was made following a request by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mohammed had two days back ordered the release of 2,100 Pakistani prisoners which the Pakistan foreign office said was a "major diplomatic achievement" after a request made by PM Imran Khan.

Pakistan is laying out the red carpet for the fortunate prisoners by planning to despatch state-owned planes to fetch them from Saudi Arabia.
