Rs.25 lakh And Police Job For Slain Punjab Police Officer Baljit Singh's Son

IANS, 30 Jul, 2015 12:40 PM
Recognizing the bravery of Superintendent of Police Baljit Singh, who sacrificed his life in the Dinanagar terror attack, the Punjab government announced on Thursday that the officer's son would be appointed as a deputy superintendent of police.

Besides, the state government announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs.25 lakh to the police officer's family.

The decision was taken by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal during a meeting with senior civil and police officers here.

The state government also announced the job of constable in Punjab Police to one member of each family of three home guards, who were killed in the terror attack.

All police personnel and civilians injured in the operation would be given an ex-gratia grant of Rs.3 lakh each.

Badal also asked the state home department to recommend Baljit Singh be awarded the President Police Medal for gallantry posthumously.

Appreciating the exemplary courage shown by Punjab Roadways bus driver Nanak Chand, who showed extraordinary presence of mind and bravery in steering the passengers to safety despite the bus being fired upon by the terrorists, the state government has decided to honour him at the state level Independence Day function with a state award. He will also be given financial assistance of Rs.2 lakh.

The terror attack took place in Dinanagar town, 235 km from here, on Monday. Seven people, including the police officer, three home guards and three civilians were killed in the attack.
