Ram Jethmalani Quits As Kejriwal's Lawyer, Says Keep The 2 Crore Fee

IANS, 26 Jul, 2017 11:48 AM
Ram Jethmalani on Wednesday said he had quit as Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's counsel in the defamation case filed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Jethmalani said: “I have quit the case of Arvind Kejriwal. He should release the letter, which I sent to him.”

Jethmalani said the reason why he was quitting was that Kejriwal had lied that he did not give him instructions on the case, but the fact was that he did.

Over his fee in the case, which is over Rs 2 crore, Jethmalani said: “It does not matter if Kejriwal does not pay, I work for free for thousands of people."

Jaitley had filed the criminal defamation suit against Kejriwal and five other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders--Ashutosh, Kumar Vishwas, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chaddha and Deepak Bajpai.

In his complaint, Jaitley had accused Kejriwal and others of defaming him in a controversy regarding the DDCA and sought Rs 10 crore as damages. Jaitley was president of the DDCA for over a decade.
