Rajmata's Ashes Immersed At Kiratpur Amid Prayers By Captain Amarinder Singh, Family Members

Darpan News Desk IANS, 27 Jul, 2017 10:49 AM
Amarinder’s son-in-law Gurpal Singh, his grandsons Nirvan Singh and Yadhuinder Singh besides Harshdeep Singh Dhillon, son of Amarinder’s younger sister, also joined the family for immersion of the mortal remains of Rajmata.

Amarinder then went into the gurdwara to offer prayers, before partaking langar in the Langar Hall.

He was accompanied by his brother Malwinder, son Raninder, Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Rana KP Singh, Health Minister Brahm Mahindra, Power and Irrigation Minister Rana Gurjit Singh, Welfare Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Rural Development Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, MLAs Balbir Singh Sidhu, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Vijay Inder Singla, Raj Kumar, Kuljit Singh Nagra, Hardyal Singh Kamboj and Ramanjit Singh Sikki among others.

Earlier, the family collected the last remains of Rajmata Mohinder Kaur at the Shahi Samadhan in Patiala. Rajmata Mohinder was cremated at the Shahi Samadhan on Tuesday, a day after she passed away in Patiala following a prolonged illness.

The family left their residence at the New Moti Bagh Palace early in the morning to collect the ashes of the Rajmata, with a large number of friends and locals joining them on the way to Shahi Samadhan.

The ashes were then carried, in a flower-decked vehicle, to Kirtapur Sahib for immersion. Rajmata’s grandson and chief minister’s son Raninder Singh cradled the ashes in his lap as the family, led by the chief minister, left Shahi Samadhan for Kiratpur Sahib.

Meanwhile, Congress president Sonia Gandhi expressed grief at the passing of Mohinder Kaur, recalling her contribution to the party and the country, as well as her patriotism. In a condolence letter to Amarinder, Sonia described her as a woman who lived her life with utmost grace and dignity, and a strong sense of service to the Congress party and the nation.

“In her years as a member of the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha, she demonstrated unshakeable patriotism, as well as her commitment to furthering education, and through that the values of good citizenship,” Sonia wrote, adding that she was admired and respected across the political spectrum.
