Putin conveys inability to attend G20 summit to Modi, to send Foreign Minister

New Delhi, August 28 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation on Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who conveyed his inability to attend the G20 summit in New Delhi, which is scheduled to be held on September 9 and 10.

Putin informed Modi that Russia would be represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the G20 summit.

The two leaders reviewed progress on number of issues of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual concern, including the recently concluded BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.

While expressing understanding for Russia’s decision, Modi thanked Putin for Russia’s consistent support to all initiatives under India’s G20 presidency. The two leaders agreed to remain in touch.

A CISF official said that the accused was identified as Palekar Liyakat Abdulla, (Indian) who was supposed to travel from Mumbai to Dubai.

Two arrested with drugs worth Rs 8 cr in Delhi

With the arrest of two men, the Delhi Police’s Special Cell on Friday claimed to have busted an inter-state drug cartel and recovered 1.505 kg fine quality heroin and 2.126 kg tramadol powder worth more than Rs eight crore, an official said.
