Punjab to set up healthcare facilities near Chandigarh

Darpan News Desk IANS, 10 Dec, 2014 11:57 AM
  • Punjab to set up healthcare facilities near Chandigarh
To provide quality healthcare education and ultra modern medical facilities, the Punjab government has finalized its plot allotment policy to set up multi-specialty hospitals, medical colleges and medical research institutes in Medi-City at New Chandigarh near here.

A scrutiny committee, comprising senior officers and health-care sector professionals, has also been constituted to ensure transparency in allotments to eligible enterprises, a spokesman of housing and urban development department said here Wednesday.

He said that the policy has been made keeping in view the big response from private sector to invest in health-care and biosciences sector.

"Total private healthcare spending in Punjab is about 82 percent which proves that the market is largely unexplored and it offers a good opportunity for investors to create medical facilities in the state having higher per capita income and more spending power," the spokesman said.

He said that as per the allotment policy, 104 acres would be allotted to set up hospitals, medical institutes and research centres.

Out of this, 50 acres land has already been allotted to Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre which was under construction.
