Punjab to roll out 225 citizen-centric services by May 2015

Darpan News Desk IANS, 13 Nov, 2014 10:53 AM
  • Punjab to roll out 225 citizen-centric services by May 2015
Punjab will set up 2,600 unified civil services centres in all villages and 137 towns in the state by May 2015 to provide 225 citizen-centric services related to various departments, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said Thursday.

Addressing a gathering in Jalalabad in Ferozepur district, 280 km from here, Badal said the services would be provided so that people can get their work, related to various departments, done in a hassle-free manner.

Badal said that for services like BPL (below poverty line) cards, driving licences, birth and death certificates, police verification, attestation of documents and others, the Punjab cabinet recently approved the setting up of 1,750 rural and 424 urban cyber service centres under the "minimum government, maximum governance" plan.

"If we have to wipe out corruption, the contact between common man and public dealing government offices will have to be eliminated and such service centres are a big step to achieve this target," he said.

He said the services will be provided in a time-bound manner to common people.
