Chandigarh, June 28 (IANS) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohali, Vivek Sheel Soni, on Tuesday ordered registration of an FIR against Sub-Inspector (S-I) Balwinder Singh in the firing incident in Dera Bassi in Punjab.
The SSP also initiated departmental action against three police personnel present at the spot for major punishment.
The development came after S-I Balwinder Singh, who along with the police party was conducting a routine checking, fired at the leg of Hitesh Kumar following a scuffle with some individuals on the night of June 26.
A police vehicle was vandalised by some people on the spot.
The SSP already suspended S-I Balwinder Singh and transferred him to the police lines.
Pertinently, following the incident, the SSP constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SP Headquarters to investigate the incident and submit a report.
Meanwhile, the FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the police station in Dera Bassi.
Police are looking at this angle. The incident took place near Kengeri at 1 a.m. and the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals. According to the police, the bus had first hit the 4-feet tall road divider and then rammed into the Namma Metro Pillar number 545.
Chairing a meeting of the Special Task Force (STF) team led by its chief Harpreet Sidhu here, Mann said neither political persons nor officers would be spared if found conniving with the drug mafia. He told the police officers to work freely without any political pressure with a sharpened focus to make Punjab a drug-free state.
According to the SHO of Cantonment police station, Rajeev Singh, Ram Lakhan's wife informed the police that her husband had confessed to killing their son following a fight with her. A police team went looking for the 'body' but could not find the child.

Asking Mann not to become a puppet in the hands of Kejriwal, the SAD President said: "The Chief Minister should take review meetings of the law and order situation as well as ensure those responsible for flaring communal tensions in the recent Patiala clash are brought to task instead of keeping himself busy by deputing Punjab Police teams to Delhi to arrest opponents of AAP."
