Punjab, Haryana procure over 150 lakh tonnes paddy

    Food grain states Punjab and Haryana have procured over 150 lakh tonnes of paddy this season, food and supplies officials in both states said Wednesday.
     
    Of this, over 112.41 lakh tonnes paddy has been procured in Punjab while nearly 38 lakh tonnes has been procured in Haryana.
     
    Of the total paddy arrival in Punjab, nearly 98.4 percent has been procured by government agencies, while the rest has been bought by private rice millers and traders.
     
    Ludhiana, Sangrur and Moga districts were leading in paddy procurement, the officials said.
     
    Government agencies in Haryana have procured over 28.5 lakh tonnes paddy this year. The remaining 9.4 lakh tonnes have been procured by rice millers and traders.
     
    Kurukshetra, Karnal and Ambala districts were leading in paddy arrivals in Haryana.
     
    Procurement of paddy in both states started Oct 1.
