  • Punjab Govt Considers Law For Action Against Artistes Promoting Drugs, Says Minister Charanjit Singh Channi

Punjab Government is considering a law to take action against artistes who glorify drug use, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said on Tuesday.

The minister said at a meeting with Punjabi singer Pammi Bai that movies and songs that glorify drug use have a role to play in pushing youngsters towards substance abuse.

Channi also said that it was the “duty” of Punjabi artistes to present a “real picture” of the Punjab’s culture before the world to dispel “wrong notions” to help boost the state’s tourism industry.

Pammi said he was concerned about the state’s drug problem, and that he would support any action that state government chose to take against such singers and artistes.
