Punjab ex-MLA arrested for owning disproportionate assets

Chandigarh, May 16 (IANS) The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday arrested Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon, the former MLA from Faridkot, for possession of assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
A spokesperson for the bureau said a corruption case has been registered him along with Gursewak Singh and Rajwinder Singh.
He said to assess all moveable and immovable assets of Dhillon, a check period has been fixed for five years from April 1, 2017. During the probe, it was found that he had created wealth more than all his income and purchased properties in the names of other persons in Mumara village in Sadik tehsil in Faridkot district.
It was also found that he had made expenditures of about 245 per cent than his known sources of income, he added.
A case under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against them. The former MLA will be produced in a court on Wednesday.
The CBI officials on condition of anonymity said that Rs 50 lakh was even paid by Khan's family to save him in the drug case. He said that in coming days, they will summon Wankhede to join the probe and get his statement recorded.
Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Friday wrote to S. Jaishankar, Union External Affairs Minister, about Punjabi women stranded in Muscat, the capital of Oman. He requested to taking up the matter on humanitarian grounds with the embassies to ensure the safety of these women and necessary steps be taken to bring them back to India.
Punjab Police have taken custody of the trio identified as Dharmendra Singh, a resident of Amritsar, Malkit Singh and Harpal Singh, both residents of Tarn Taran in Punjab. The accused -- Azadvir Singh, Amreek Singh, Sahib Singh, Harjeet Singh and Dharmendra Singh -- have confessed the crime. Three of them were involved in the sourcing of the explosives.
Seven members of a family were burnt to death after a massive fire engulfed their entire house in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district. The victims comprised four minor girls, their mother and grandparents.
