Possible to compromise in defamation case: Kerjriwal tells court

  • Possible to compromise in defamation case: Kerjriwal tells court
Former chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal Saturday told a court here that he is planning to reach a compromise in a criminal defamation case filed against him by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.

Metropolitan Magistrate Gomati Manocha asked the counsel of both side to settle the matter observing that it is a case based on clash of egos.

Kejriwal's counsel said that there is a possibility of compromise in the matter and they are in the process of doing it.

The court deferred the matter to Oct 18, after it was informed that the matter was pending before the Delhi High Court.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal, who did not appear personally in the court was earlier granted permanent exemption from personal appearance by the magistrate.

The Court June 6 had framed defamation charges against AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal after he did not plead guilty and sought a trial.

Gadkari, now a union minister, had filed the criminal defamation complaint against Kejriwal, saying he defamed him by including his name in the Aam Aadmi Party's list of "India's most corrupt".

Kejriwal had earlier been sent to jail after he refused to furnish a personal bond in the case. He, however, later furnished a personal bond on the advice of the Delhi High Court and was released.
