Chandigarh, July 30 (IANS) Outgoing Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Tuesday bid farewell, expressing his gratitude and admiration for the state.

"The people of Punjab should work hard to make it prosperous. This would play a pivotal role in making India a Vishwa Guru," he said while delivering a valedictory speech at the Raj Bhavan here.

Governor Purohit, who was also the Administrator of Chandigarh, said the people of Punjab should collectively come forward in the fight against drugs.

He added that the need of the hour was to eradicate the sin of drugs from the state to save the coming generations.

He said the people of Punjab "are very large-hearted and they will strongly overcome the problem of drugs".

"Punjab is a land of opportunities and there is a lot of scope for betterment in various sectors," Governor Purohit added.

The Governor also said that during the recent NITI Aayog meeting he inaugurated various development projects for Chandigarh, especially to build one medical college and Outer Ring Road.

He thanked the Punjab government and the Chandigarh administration for their support and comfortable stay for three years as Punjab Governor and the Administrator of Chandigarh.

He said memories of Punjab would always be cherished, especially the profound memories of Punjabi culture and teaching of the Sikh Gurus.

India’s nominal GDP growth will accelerate to 11.6 per cent this year versus 9.2 per cent in 2023, making it the third consecutive year that the country’s nominal GDP growth will be the strongest in Asia, according to a Morgan Stanley report. India’s contribution to Asian and global growth will rise to 30 per cent and 17 per cent, respectively, up from 28 per cent and 16 per cent in 2023. Over the medium term, real GDP growth will average 6.3 per cent until F32.

The RBI has also recommended that state governments may consider charging a minimum guarantee fee for guarantees extended and additional risk premium may be charged based on the risk category and the tenor of the underlying loan. It said that besides, state governments may publish data relating to guarantees, as per the Indian Government Accounting Standard (IGAS).

A Delhi court on Tuesday reserved, for January 18, its order on the bail application of Neelam Azad, one of the six accused in the December 13, 2023, Parliament security breach case. As Additional Sessions Judge Hardeep Kaur of Patiala House Courts heard the matter, the Delhi Police opposed Azad’s bail plea, saying that the material and documentary evidence demonstrate her involvement in the offence, making her ineligible for release on bail.

Despite the establishment of 'War Rooms' at six metropolitan airports, chaos at Delhi airport continued for the third day on Tuesday with the departure of over 90 domestic flights either delayed or rescheduled by a few hours. As per sources, the delays were attributed to dense fog in the morning leading to air traffic congestion.
