Aligarh Muslim University authorities today made it clear there was no "external pressure" on them or "ulterior motive" behind expelling a Kashmiri student who had posted "objectionable" comments on Facebook over the terror attack on the army base in Uri.
"There was no external pressure on the university or ulterior motive behind expelling Mudassar Yusuf," a university statement said.
"AMU Vice Chancellor Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah had expelled the student within hours of the matter coming to his notice and there was no ulterior motive behind it. The student's room was also vacated and sealed the same day," an AMU spokesperson said.
"The university has taken it very seriously and is not prepared to accept any prevarication under any circumstances.
It is unfortunate that some individuals are questioning the bona fides of the Vice Chancellor on the issue," he said.
A case has already been registered against the student at Police Station Civil Lines in connection with the matter. The police, however, have failed to trace his whereabouts.
