New Appointments In Congress' Punjab Unit

    Charanjit Singh Chani, Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Neeraj Singh Cheema were on Friday appointed as chief, deputy chief and chief whip of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) of Punjab.
     
    The appointments were approved by party chief Sonia Gandhi, an official statement issued here said.
     
    The move came weeks after the party appointed Amarinder Singh as Punjab Congress chief.
     
    Amarinder Singh's appointment was made on November 27 keeping the 2017 Punjab assembly polls in mind.
     
    The move intended to give a fresh impetus to the beleaguered and faction-ridden unit.
     
    The Congress also announced the re-appointment of senior state party leader Sunil Jakhar as the legislature party leader in the state assembly. Legislator Lal Singh was appointed senior vice-president.
     
    It also appointed former union minister Ambika Soni as chairperson of the campaign committee for the assembly polls.
