Nabbed With Heroin, Amritsar ASI Found Dead In STF Custody

    The Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of police, who was nabbed for drug peddling by the Special Task force (STF), committed suicide in police custody here on Tuesday.


    The deceased ASI has been identified as Avtar Singh, who was posted at Gharinda police station. Avtar was arrested by the STP along with ASI Jorawar Singh.


    SSP Amritsar (Rural) Vikram Jeet Singh Duggal confirmed the development. While the STF officials did not return the phone calls.


    According to sources, the STF was shifting the arrested ASIs to the other cell when Avtar reportedly took pistol of a cop and killed himself. However, officials did not confirm this.


    Avtar and Jorawar were arrested in a joint operation by Amritsar rural police and STF. The police had booked them under the NDPS Act. The police had not disclosed the exact quantity of the seized drug.
