Member of int'l cartel held with gold worth Rs 46 lakh in Lucknow

Lucknow, Dec 12 (IANS) A member of an international cartel was arrested by the Gomti Nagar police after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) detained him up on a tip off from Amausi airport soon after he landed from Guwahati.
The accused is Sunny Dilip Lal Sharma alias Manav Govind.
While he had secured an identity in the name of Manav Govind to smuggle gold this time, it was revealed that he had been using six different identities.
The DRI team recovered 862 grams of gold worth Rs 46 lakh from him. He was later handed over to the Gomti Nagar police.
Police said that during interrogation, it surfaced that Sharma originally hailed from Ulhasnagar in Maharashtra and was a part of an international syndicate.
"He was given the responsibility of carrying a foreign origin gold that was sneaked in from Myanmar via Imphal and then by a gang member to Guwahati from where he had to deliver the consignment to Delhi. But soon after landing at Amausi airport he was intercepted by DRI," the police said.
The police further added that he was given a commission for the task and his bank accounts are being scrutinised.
"Sharma had smuggled the gold six-seven times in the past and used different names as his identity," said the police.
He further disclosed that he worked for a gang which is working on an international level and several like him are members in the gang.
In the past he had visited countries like Nepal, Dubai, Qatar in connection with gold smuggling. The police recovered five Aadhaar Cards from him.
SHO, Gomti Nagar, D.C. Mishra said that they will be interrogating the accused to seek information about his other gang members.
Local Government Minister Inderbir Singh Nijjar said the G-20 summit is going to be held in the holy city of Amritsar, possibly from March 15 to 17, 2023, and will have participation of the heads of state of G-20 countries and other international delegates
The Minister said this while speaking after flagging-off 30 campaign chariots of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the office of the saffron party's Delhi unit, in view of the MCD elections. The chariot flagging event was also attended by BJP leaders, office bearers and party workers.
Superintendent of Police, Chitradurga, K. Parashurama said that along with the prime accused seer, the charges against accused number two, women's hostel warden Rashmi and accused number four Paramashivaiah are also valid. However, the police are gathering evidence against accused number two, a minor, and accused number five Gangadharaiah, he added.
He made the announcement while addressing a joint presser here with his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann. Kejriwal also said that outdoor activities for all classes above class 5 will also be suspended.
Interacting with the mediapersons here, the Chief Minister, accompanied by his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal, said the state government is working on a multi-pronged strategy and has already roped in agriculture experts and the farmers unions for working out a viable solution for this problem.
Around 810 km of metro line are operational in 20 cities in the country while more than 980 km of metro network and RRTS is currently under construction in 27 cities, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Puri said on Friday, adding India currently has the fifth-largest metro network in the world.
