Mary Kom Conferred Honorary Doctor Of Letters Degree

    Five-time world boxing champion and Olympic medallist M.C. Mary Kom and the UPSC's first woman chairperson Rose Millian Bathew Kharbuli were on Tuesday conferred honorary Doctor of Letters degrees by the North Eastern Hill University here in Meghalaya.
     
    Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani presented the degrees.
     
    Kharbuli was given the degree in recognition of her invaluable contribution in teaching, public administration and towards society at large.
     
    Mary Kom was awarded the honorary degree in absentia for her outstanding contribution in the field of sports.
