Manmohan Singh moves to 3, Motilal Nehru Marg

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 26 May, 2014 04:06 PM
Former prime minister Manmohan Singh shifted to his new residence - 3 Motilal Nehru Marg - after attending the oath taking ceremony of his successor Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan Monday evening.

"Yes, he (Manmohan Singh) has moved to Motilal Nehru Marg," an official from the PMO said.

After a decade at 7 Race Course Road, the official residence of the Indian prime minister, Manmohan Singh has moved to the new address, a sprawling bungalow on a busy roundabout not too far from where he has been staying.

The leafy bungalow, built on a three acre plot with expansive lawns at the front and back, was home to then Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit who had to vacate it when she lost the Delhi assembly election in December 2013.

The bungalow had been recently renovated and special focus was given on beefing the security around the house including new sentry-posts erected at the entrance and corner. A huge sliding iron gate has been erected at the entrance, in addition to the main outer gate.

Manmohan Singh and his family would continue to be guarded by the elite Special Protection Group (SPG) as a former prime minister.
