A 58-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his nephew for objecting to his drinking habits in Muzaffarnagar district on Monday, police said.
The accused, Vipin Kumar, has been arrested for shooting his uncle dead in the fields in Muzaffarnagar, a police officer said.
The gun used to commit the crime has been recovered and the body sent for post-mortem, the officer added.
"The Government is aware of the statements by certain Gurudwara Committees and Organisations based in Canada, US, UK and some other countries in which they have alleged interference by Government of India representatives in the affairs of the Sikh community," VK Singh said.
Former top Karnataka police officer HT Sangliana said on Friday that his comment on Nirbhaya's mother, which has provoked all-round anger and disgust, was meant as a "compliment".
The man was attacked by about 40-50 men with hockey sticks and swords, his son said.
