Man Made To Touch Lover's Feet; Allegedly Commits Suicide In Delhi

Darpan News Desk IANS, 22 Sep, 2016 12:03 PM
A 25-year-old man allegedly committed suicide after he was humiliated by the kin of a girl, with whom he was in a relationship, in west Delhi's Nihal Vihar area, police said on Wednesday.

The victim, Yagya Sharan Dutt, hanged himself to death on September 19 because he was "depressed" over the humiliation he faced at the hands of his lover's family, a relative of the deceased said.

"Yagya was in a relationship with a girl. Last week, the couple had gone for lunch in a restaurant. But Yagya was hit by a few 'acquaintances' of the girl," he said.

The boy and the girl were then taken to the police station, where Yagya's uncle and the girl's family members were called.

The girl's father insulted Yagya and asked him to stay away from his daughter. He also made him touch the girl's feet and accept her as his sister, the relative alleged.

A senior police officer said Yagya, who used to stay with his uncle, hanged himself when his uncle had gone for work.

"We are not suspecting foul play as of now. In the postmortem report, there were no signs of physical torture.

The man was depressed since the girl did not reciprocate his advances," said the officer.
