In a rare love story, a 27-year-old woman - a sex worker at GB Road, was rescued by her lover with the help of local police and Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Thursday.
The woman who wants to marry a local man from Sadar Bazaar met him in a local market area of North Delhi two years ago. The man started visiting her in the brothel in the guise of a customer, duping the Kotha owner, reported India Today. Soon they came up with the decision of getting married.
When the woman failed to escape from the clutches of the Kotha owner, her lover informed the DCW by calling on their helpline number. Following this, a team of police officers and DCW councillors raided the GB Road-based brothel and rescued the woman.
A senior officer of DCW said, "We got this call a few days ago from a man who said he is in love with a woman from GB Road. He informed us that she is in Brothel number 68 and keen on leaving this profession and coming along with him."
He further added that she relocated from Nepal after the disastrous earthquake of the year 2015. "She was from a very poor family and lost everything. Due to lack of food and livelihood, she had come to Delhi and someone sold her at GB Road," the officer said.
