Man Allegedly Hammers Wife To Death, Then Kills Himself In Mumbai

Darpan News Desk IANS, 01 Jul, 2016 12:31 PM
A 40-year-old man allegedly killed his wife with a hammer before committing suicide at their residence in suburban Powai, said police.

The incident took place last evening.

According to police, the man was identified as Suresh Beej, a labourer, and his wife Preeti.

"Despite their marriage of eight years, they did not have a child and this was a reason for regular fights between them," senior inspector of Powai police station, B K Mahadeshwar, said.

Last evening, their relatives, who stay in the same locality, came to their place.

"However, when they did not get a response despite repeatedly knocking at the door, one of the neighbours broke open one of the asbestos sheets and entered their house. They were shocked to find that the woman was lying motionless on the floor, while her husband was found hanging from the ceiling fan," said police.

The woman was hit on the head with a hammer and the veins of her hands were also found slashed, they said.

Inquiries into the case showed that there were regular arguments between them and this was also known to the woman's mother, added police.

The post-mortem confirmed that Preeti died following head injuries, while Suresh's death was caused by hanging, police said.

However, their visceras have been sent to Kalina forensic science laboratory to check if they had consumed any kind of drug or alcohol before their deaths.
