Lt Governor Kiran Bedi To Drag Temple Chariot In Puducherry Village

IANS, 18 Aug, 2016 01:53 PM
In keeping with the decades-old tradition, Lt Governor Kiran Bedi will drag the chariot of the famous Sengazhuneer Amman shrine at nearby Veerampattinam village during the temple's annual car festival tomorrow.

The car festival takes place on the fifth Friday since the commencement of the Tamil month of 'Aadi' (July to August) every year.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and his cabinet colleagues will also participate in the car festival, a senior official of Raj Nivas told.

The tradition of the Governor pulling the chariots of local temples during annual festivals along with the public was introduced several decades ago by the then French regime in the Union Territory.

The official said Ms Bedi would travel to Puducherry from Karaikal to participate in the car festival and resume her camp in Karaikal after attending the festival, to address the grievances of people there.
