Ladakh intrusion: China seeks flag meet, Modi to be briefed

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 23 Sep, 2014 12:43 PM
Even as Chinese soldiers continue to lodge on Indian territory in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region, China has sought a flag meet, defence ministry officials said Tuesday.

Informed sources added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be briefed about the situation by army chief General Dalbir Singh Wednesday.

While the army is still contemplating the Chinese request, the sources said a flag meet may be held Wednesday or Thursday, as the practice is that such requests are not turned down.

Around 800 Chinese troops continue to be on Indian territory in Ladakh, according to official sources. The Chinese troops have entered at least three kilometers into Indian territory.

Indian soldiers have also been deployed in the stand-off zone, while 15 battalions and reserve units in eastern Ladakh have been kept at high alert.
