Kanhaiya Kumar, Supporters Booked For 'Assaulting' Patna AIIMS Doctor

IANS, 15 Oct, 2018 01:10 PM
Former JNU Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar on Monday landed in fresh trouble after a case was registered against him and his supporters for misbehaving and manhandling doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna.

Kanhaiya has allegedly manhandled a junior doctor Avinash Pandey and security guards manned at orthopaedics department of AIIMS in Patna on Sunday evening.

He and his supporters was said to have visited the hospital to see Sushil Kumar, state president of All India Students Federation (AISF), when they were asked not to crowd the hospital ward and the incident occurred.

A case against Kanhaiya Kumar and others was lodged at Phulwarisharif police station in Patna as they were alleged to have misbehaved with doctors and staffs of AIIMS on Sunday evening. Further probe is on to ascertain the veracity of the incident. An action would be taken against they as per the course of law, said station house officer (SHO) Mohammad Quiser Alam.

AISF state president Sushil Kumar, who was admitted to AIIMS, said: "Doctors rudely treated Kanhaiya even as he kept on urging to see me before the situation turned hostile. Because of indifferent attitudes of doctors with attendants, such incidents occur."

Kanhaiya is set to contest Lok Sabha election in 2019 from Begusarai constituency of Bihar on CPI ticket. He, however, already kicked off his campaign for it and targeting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government at the Centre. Raising voices against the Modi government means being targeted everywhere even if anarchy is prevalent in government institutions, said Kanhaiya.

State health minister Mangal Pandey said: "It is not JNU and violence could not be tolerated at any cost. I have already asked director of AIIMS to submit a report on the incident so that stern action could be ensured against the guilty."

Seething in anger, AIIMS doctors have asked their superintendent Suresh Kumar for installation of more CCTV cameras and providing armed security personnel at each ward and ensure safety and security of doctors, said Dr Vinay Singh.
