Jagdale Nilambari Vijay Is Chandigarh's First Woman SSP

IANS, 22 Aug, 2017 12:02 PM
Punjab-cadre IPS officer Jagdale Nilambari Vijay today took over as the first woman Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

Soon after taking over the charge, the 2008-batch officer said that maintenance of law and order in the city and safety of vulnerable sections, including women, would be her main priority.

Ahead of the verdict in a case involving Dera Sacha Sauda chief, she said elaborate security arrangements were being made to maintain law and order (in the wake of verdict in the case).

The special CBI court in Panchkula will pronounce the judgment in sexual exploitation case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief on August 25.
The Sirsa-headquartered sect head has also been asked to appear in person before the court on the same day.

To a query on crime against women, she said special efforts would be made to ensure safety of vulnerable sections including women.
Chandigarh remained in the news this month in the wake of woman stalking incident.

She also appealed to city residents to cooperate with the police for better police services.

Vijay was earlier presently posted as the commandant- cum-deputy director (indoor) at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur.

She had served in various districts including Ludhiana, Ropar and Pathankot.

The post of the SSP in Chandigarh had been lying vacant after Sukhchain Singh Gill, a 2003-batch IPS officer, was repatriated to Punjab in December last year.

SP Eish Singhal was presently officiating as the UT, SSP
