Indo-US ties aren't about values: Pakistan daily

Darpan News Desk IANS, 11 Aug, 2014 07:27 AM
The US is embracing India because it is disgusted with Pakistan and Indo-US ties are not about "values and friendship", a Pakistani newspaper said Monday.

The Americans have no love for India or Indians. All they are doing is putting their ducks in a row, just like India is," said an editorial in The Nation.

"They (US) want protection from China and a credible enemy to keep Pakistan in check," it said.

"The US is currently quite disgusted with Pakistan. We have been called a failed state in their Congress, accused of wasting US aid to bolster our defence against India, and are the new home of terrorism which is home grown and has nothing to do with Afghanistan...

"Nothing between the US and India is going to be about values and friendship. Let’s be clear: its all business," the daily said.

It said the visit to India by US Secretary of State John Kerry and Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel "are all about mutual military benefit, realpolitik style".

The Nation said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi "will have much appeal in the US. He is pro-market...

"Modi ... will never compromise on India’s economic and military gains. This is all he needs to have in mind when playing international politics. This is all that matters in the international arena."
