Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 23 (IANS) India’s first woman judge of the Supreme Court Fathima Beevi breathed her last at a private hospital at Kollam on Thursday. She was 96-years-old and was in hospital for a while.

Beevi, who was living at her home in Pathanamthitta after retirement, has a number of firsts to her name.

Apart from being the first woman judge of the apex court she was the first Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission and the first Muslim female Governor (Tamil Nadu).

Incidentally Beevi enrolled herself as an advocate in 1950 and began her career in the lower judiciary in Kerala.

Beevi was appointed as a Munsiff in the Kerala Sub-ordinate Judicial Services in May 1958. She was promoted as the Sub-ordinate Judge in 1968, as the Chief Judicial Magistrate in 1972 and as District and Sessions Judge in 1974.

Beevi was further appointed the Judicial Member of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal in January 1980 before being elevated to the High Court as a Judge on August 4, 1983.

Beevi became permanent Judge of the High Court on May 14, 1984. She retired as the Judge of the High Court on April 29, 1989 but was further elevated to the Supreme Court as a Judge on October 6, 1989 where she retired on April 29, 1992.

Beevi later went on to become the Governor of Tamil Nadu on January 25, 1997 and she quit in 2001 following a decision of the Union Government recommending to the President to recall her.

Mishra on Friday said that the G20 action plan has successfully managed to achieve strong consensus on scaling up financing for developing countries. Addressing the Kautilya Economic Conclave, he said that action plan envisages an ambitious 7-year roadmap for coordinated, integrated, and inclusive G20 actions.

A 32-year-old woman has been arrested along with two of her accomplices for allegedly duping 11 people from Delhi, Gurugram and Noida through a dating app police said. The city police nabbed Surbhi alias Sakshi alias Payal, a resident of Chawri Bazar, Delhi and his male friends Sushil, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and Vishal of Chawdi Bazaar in Delhi.

Gujarat crackdown: 851 raids, 105 arrests & 27 licenses revoked in statewide illicit spa operations
In an operation aimed at eradicating human trafficking under the guise of spa services and hotels, the Gujarat Police undertook simultaneous raids on 851 establishments across the state, following a directive from the Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi. The large-scale operation, initiated on October 18, resulted in 103 FIRs filed against 152 individuals, leading to the arrest of 105 suspects.

NIA files charge sheet against Lawrence Bishnoi in Gujarat drug case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday filed a supplementary charge sheet in the Special Court, Ahmedabad against jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in a case involving the seizure of around 39 kg heroin by the Gujarat Police. According to the statement issued by the NIA, the charge sheet has been filed under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with section 66C of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
