India reports 7,830 new Covid cases, active caseload tops 40k

New Delhi, April 12 (IANS) In the last 24 hours, India reported 7,830 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the country's overall caseload to 40,215, according to the latest Union Health Ministry data released on Wednesday.
The data revealed that the daily and weekly positivity rates currently stood at 3.65 per cent and 3.83 per cent, respectively.
Meanwhile, 4,692 recoveries in the last 24 hours increased the total recoveries to 4,42,04,771.
In the same period, 2,14,242 tests were conducted increased the total number to 92.32 crore.
Also in the last 24 hours, 441 doses were administered. The country has so far administered 220.66 crore vaccine doses.
The active cases stand at 0.09 per cent and the recovery rate is 98.72 per cent.
The Delhi government has called an emergency meeting after the Covid cases spiked on Wednesday. A total of 300 new Covid infections in the last 24 hours were recorded in the national capital, which is a rise over Tuesday's 214 cases, as per the Delhi government health bulletin.
Asserting that the situation was likely to worsen in the coming days, Badal said the summer season had not started but the state power utility had started imposing power cuts of as much as eight hours per day even in cities.
In a video message to the farmers, he said several crops were grown on the fertile land but gradually the farmers confined themselves to paddy only. He said this has adversely affected the topography of the state in terms of excessive power consumption, depletion of water table as most of the blocks had gone in extreme dark zones, pollution due burning of stubble and others.
