In Sickness And Health: Akash Ambani, Shloka Mehta Exchange Vows. Watch

Darpan News Desk IANS, 11 Mar, 2019 07:34 PM

There were fireworks and an aerial act at the glitzy celebration night here on Sunday for newly-weds Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta.

A host of Bollywood celebrities, politicians and sportspersons came together to celebrate the couple's union.

Akash, son of Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani, and Shloka, youngest daughter of diamond merchant Russell Mehta, beamed with joy as they posed for shutterbugs against a heavily decorated floral backdrop. While Akash looked smart in a black kurta with a long embellished jacket, Shloka wore a golden ensemble.

Bollywood celebs turned up in full force for the gala evening.

The guests included Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karan Johar, Jeetendra and daughter Ekta Kapoor, Suniel Shetty and Mana Shetty, Riteish Deshmukh, Goldie Behl and Sonali Bendre Behl, Prasoon Joshi, Shankar Mahadevan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna, Karisma Kapoor, Pooja Hegde, Boney Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Raj Kundra, Madhur Bhandarkar, Padmini Kolhapure, Falguni Pathak, Farah Khan, Sanjay Khan, Kiara Advani, Anu Malik, Dia Mirza, Kriti Sanon, Malaika Arora, Juhi Chawla, Rajkumar Hirani, Diana Penty and David Dhawan.

Sachin Tendulkar, Irfan Pathan, P.V. Sindhu, Anil Kumble, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya were seen from the sports world, while politician Uddhav Thackeray was seen with his son Aditya at the event, held at Jio World Centre.

The Ambanis also organised a one-of-a-kind show involving a musical fountain-cum-dance show, set on the theme of Raas Lila of Lord Krishna, Radha and the Gopikas of Vrindavan, for the evening.

It integrated colourful movements of the water fountain to a dance performance on stage and an aerial dance act right above the stage and the water fountain -- signifying a symmetry between water, earth and sky. Around 150 Indian and international artistes participated in it.

There has also been buzz about a live show by American pop rock band Maroon 5 at the celebration night, which follows the March 9 wedding of the couple.

A reception will also be held here on Monday.

MAROON 5 PERFORMS AT AKASH, SHLOKA'S WEDDING PARTY

After getting Beyonce to perform at a pre-wedding party for his daughter Isha last year, industrialist Mukesh Ambani -- the richest Indian -- on Sunday hosted a post-wedding celebration for his son Akash with American pop rock band Maroon 5 regaling a star-studded crowd.

Maroon 5, which has Adam Levine as its lead vocalist, took the stage at the Jio World Centre, and performed some of their hit tracks, including "Girls like you" and "What lovers do".

While a social media policy was issued to the guests urging privacy for the celebrations, a few video snippets from the private show made it to social media.

In one of the videos, the couple is seen dancing away and lip synced to Levine's live rendition of his popular song "She will be loved".

Their songs "Sugar" and "Moves like Jagger" are reportedly loved by Akash and Shloka respectively.

Having the Grammy Award-winning Maroon 5 at the party took Akash and Shloka's wedding celebrations to the next level after the Ambani family had already made the world sit up and take notice of the celebrations by roping in Coldplay and The Chainsmokers to perform at their pre-wedding gala in St. Moritz, Switzerland last month.

Akash, son of Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani, and Shloka, youngest daughter of diamond merchant Russell Mehta, got married here on Saturday at a lavish ceremony.

The celebration night on Sunday saw elaborate fireworks and a performance by Akash's mother Nita Ambani. She danced to Krishna bhajan "Achyutam Keshavam" with a musical fountain adding to the drama.

KJO, HARDIK PANDYA DANCE AWAY AT AKASH, SHLOKA'S WEDDING

There seems to have been no love lost between filmmaker Karan Johar and cricketer Hardik Pandya after the controversial "Koffee With Karan" episode, as the two celebrities danced away together at the grand Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta wedding here.

Karan and Hardik were a part of the wedding procession, where actor Ranbir Kapoor and director Ayan Mukerji also let their hair down to Mika Singh's live singing.

Dressed in a bright sherwani, Karan matched steps with Hardik, who chose a cool blue kurta with a sleeveless Nehru jacket at the lively and colourful wedding procession on Saturday.

The dance video, which is doing the rounds on social media, has garnered interest because of the "Koffee With Karan" episode in which Hardik, along with K.L. Rahul made some unsavoury and misogynistic comments on women and received a lot of flak.

Following the episode, the two cricketers were sent home midway through a three-match ODI series in Australia.

Karan had later said in an interview that he felt "very responsible" about the repercussions that the two cricketers faced.

SRK, RANBIR, KJO DANCE AWAY AT AKASH AMBANI'S WEDDING

Bollywood celebrities Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and Karan Johar danced away to singer Mika Singh's live tracks as industrialist Mukesh Ambani's son Akash Ambani made his way to wed Shloka Mehta here on Saturday.

The celebs, including Priyanka Chopra and director Ayan Mukerji, joined the lively and colourful 'baraat', which also saw the groom's parents -- Mukesh and Nita Ambani -- as well as sister Isha Ambani groove.

While Isha sported a pastel pink lehenga, Nita was dressed in a heavily-embroidered lehenga.

The groom looked dapper in a soft pink, intricately embroidered and sequinned sherwani, and seemed to be enjoying the wedding procession to the hilt.

The wedding venue -- the Jio World Centre, Bandra-Kurla Complex here -- was decked up with elaborate floral arrangements set according to a garden theme complete with a faux waterfall, floral figurines, a fountain and a grand stage with a huge Krishna idol done up in flowers.

Live music added to the festivities at the wedding gala, which saw the Who's Who of the cinema, political, business and sports world.

Former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie Blair came in for the celebrations.

From the business sector, names like Anil Ambani, Ratan Tata, Lakshmi Niwas Mittal and Usha Mittal, Anand Mahindra and Gautam Singhania were in attendance.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Microsoft head honcho Satya Nadella too came for the celebrations, as did politicians like Praful Patel and H. D. Deve Gowda.

As for the film world, Rajinikanth, Gauri Khan, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, Farah Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Sidharth Malhotra, Shabana Azmi, Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan were present.

Among the sportspersons, there was Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Zaheer Khan, Ajinkya Rahane, and Sri Lankan cricket legend Mahela Jayawardene.

The marriage was preceded by days of celebrations, which began with a 'dandiya' night last month, and moved into a three-day gala in St. Moritz in Switzerland.
