Husband Is Addicted To Pornography: Indian Woman Moves SC For Total Ban On Online Pornography

IANS, 15 Feb, 2018 12:01 PM
“Shocked and upset” by her husband’s addiction to online pornographic material, a 27-year-old woman has moved the Supreme Court seeking a complete ban on online pornography.

“I am of the firm opinion that the easy availability of porn in this country is a serious impediment in the progress of this nation as a whole new generation is adversely affected leading to perversion of youth, loss of moral and spiritual values which if not checked can lead to total lack of productivity, rise in sex crimes, matrimonial disputes and a state of doom would then set in leading to total and complete disaster,” the woman said in her affidavit.

The top court is already seized of at least two other petitions on the issue since 2013 and she has sought to intervene in the matter.

A year ago, another woman had approached the top court, saying her marriage had become unworkable because of her husband’s addiction to online pornography and demanded a total ban on it.

A class 12 student too had moved the court last year, saying she was disgusted by addiction to pornography among classmates.
In her affidavit, the latest petitioner alleged that her husband was so addicted to online pornography that he was ignoring his day-to-day activities.

The woman has submitted that her marriage was getting ruined as her 35-year-old husband had become indifferent to her physical and material needs.
She said her husband was insisting on a divorce and had already moved a family court.

She submitted, "I am of the opinion that all sexually explicit sites and all kinds of porn depicting women in very poor light must be banned in India as easy access of such explicit stuff is not at all good for the overall development of this great country. Young minds must be channelised for constructive pursuits and not be allowed to fall prey to the addiction of porn for the betterment of this country,” her affidavit stated.
