Horror On Wheels: Woman Jumps Off Car To Escape Rape Bid By Friend In Mohali

Darpan News Desk IANS, 11 Apr, 2017 12:39 PM
A request for help to a male friend cost a 22-year-old woman dear, who landed at a local hospital after experiencing the trauma of a rape attempt here.

The incident occurred late last night at Phase VIII, Industrial Area, in which the Himachal-based victim, employed in a local industry, had to jump off the moving car of her friend to save her modesty.

The accused, Suresh, a local resident, is at large. He is said to be in a marketing job. Inspector Sukhwinder Singh, SHO of the Phase I police station, said the girl, who lived in Chandigarh, called Suresh to get some data around 8 pm yesterday.

“Suresh came in his Swift DZire car and called the victim to the car. Then he took her to some secluded place and tried to outrage her modesty there,” said the SHO, adding that when the victim objected and threatened to raise the alarm, he drove the vehicle back.

The SHO said when the car reached near the traffic lights at Phase VIII and slowed down, the victim jumped off the moving car.

“She was rescued by a doctor of a private hospital, who took her to the Mohali Civil Hospital,” said Inspector Sukhwinder Singh.

The victim received minor injuries, including bruises and scratches, in the incident. She informed the police and her family members from the hospital. The family members, who live at Sirmaur in Himachal Pradesh, also reached here today.
