Shimla, July 12 (IANS) The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh on Friday at a Cabinet meeting decided to withdraw the free electricity scheme benefitting all income-tax payers.
However, the 125-unit free power subsidy to domestic consumers will continue for all other categories, including BPL and IRDP families.
A decision in this regard was taken at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu.
Although in absolute terms at the end-March 2024, India's external debt stood at $663.8 billion, an increase of $39.7 billion over its level at end-March 2023 there was also an increase in the country's GDP due to the high economic growth. This resulted in a decline in the debt to GDP ratio.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Friday said it has unearthed a scam of Rs 1.55 crore after impounding two trucks laden with 1,138 bags of rice, meant for subsidised sale to the poor but being diverted. Gopal Goyal, the owner of Shiv Shakti Rice Mill, Garshankar in Hoshiarpur district, along with two truck drivers, have been arrested.

India on Friday said that it has so far not received any request for providing Consular access to Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national accused by the US authorities of having involvement in a murder-for-hire plot against a Khalistani leader.
