Guru Angad Dev varsity faculty in Punjab gets UGC scales

Jalandhar, May 17 (IANS) The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, on Wednesday gave nod for implementing the UGC scales for the teaching and non-teaching faculty of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary Sciences University (GADVASU).
A spokesperson for the Chief Minister's office said this landmark decision is aimed at encouraging the staff of the premier veterinary university to discharge their duties efficiently. This will help the teaching and non-teaching staff make concerted efforts to transform the destiny of farmers on one hand and make Punjab the frontrunner state on the other.
The Cabinet also gave approval for repealing the Punjab Revenue Patwari (Class III) Service Rules, 1966, and draft of the Punjab Revenue Patwari (Class 3) Service Rules 2023.
This decision will enable the new patwaris to complete training during the probationary period only.
As per new rules, the training period of the patwari candidates has been reduced from one and a half years i.e. one-year patwar school training and six months of field training to one year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that reducing the regional divide is one of the key priority areas for India during its G20 presidency. Modi said this after inaugurating the new International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Area office and Innovation Centre in India at a programme in Vigyan Bhawan here.
The Chief Minister categorically said this move of the hill state's government is illegitimate and irrational. He said Punjab has legitimate right over the river waters and no one can snatch it from the state. The state will not pay even a single penny for the water flowing through its land.
In a video message, the Chief Minister said Punjab symbolises peace and progress as from this sacred land the great Sikh gurus have given the message of universal brotherhood and well-being of every section to the people.
Meanwhile, the positivity rate of the city has risen to 5.83 per cent. The number of active cases stands at 270 out of which 179 patients are being treated in home isolation.With 21 patients recovering in the last 24 hours, the total number of recoveries so far has gone to 19,81,293, while the total caseload is 20,08,087 and the death toll in the city stands at 26,524.
According to Delhi Fire Service (DFS) Director Atul Garg, a call about tilting of a building was received in Shakarpur area on Vikas Marg in east Delhi. Strong tremors, lasting a few seconds, shook most of north India on Tuesday evening, creating panic among people.
The Customs officials at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here recovered 28 gold bars worth Rs 1.15 crore after rummaging two IndiGo flights, officials said. A Customs official said that the action was initiated on Saturday on the basis of intelligence inputs received by them.
