Govt's wrong decisions during Covid 2.0 killed 50L people: Rahul

New Delhi, July 21 (IANS) Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday attacked the Central government, saying that its wrong decision during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic killed 50 lakh people.
"The Truth. Government of India's wrong decisions during Covid second wave killed 50 lakh of our sisters, brothers, mothers and fathers," the Congress leader said in a tweet, attaching a report of the Washington-based think tank, Centre for Global Development, which claimed that nearly 50 lakh (4.9 million) people might have died in India due to Covid-19 between January 2020 and June 2021.
His remarks came a day after the government said in the Parliament that no one died due to shortage of oxygen during the second wave of Covid-19.
Denying reports of his resignation, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's media advisor Raveen Thukral said on Thursday that the former would lead the Congress to victory in the Assembly elections scheduled early next year.
India is still witnessing the second wave which is not yet over as northeastern states and some parts of south India are still battling it, a member of the government's Covid expert panel said on Thursday.
The passage of the bill through both the houses of the parliament will be fulfilment of the demand of 12 lakh Indians who marched across 22 states and 12,000km demanding a strong law against trafficking along with Kailash Satyarthi in 2017.
Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh has announced waiver of Rs 590 crore worth of loans under the farm debt waiver scheme for labourers and the landless farming community, an official statement said on Wednesday.
Under this proposed plan, the purchase and installation of EV chargers will be provided under two options -- outright purchase (an outright option is one that is purchased individually and is not part of a multiple leg options trade) and on a monthly subscription basis.
