Government School Ravaged By Tsunami In 2004 Gets ISO Certification

  • Government School Ravaged By Tsunami In 2004 Gets ISO Certification
A Panchayat Union Middle school in Keechankuppam village in the district, which was ravaged by the tsunami in 2004, has bagged the internationally recognised ISO 9001:2015 quality certification.

The certificate will be presented to the school during the annual day celebrations scheduled to take place next week, said R Balu, Headmaster of the school.

"The school building was rebuilt at a cost of Rs. 50 lakhs by NGOs... Prior to tsunami, about 450 children were studying in the school.. After the calamity and until 2013, the strength was less than 100," he said.

That was the reason why we decided to go for a complete transformation," he added. The state government, district administration and locals also helped achieve the feat.

Students now have access to clean drinking water through RO systems... The school also has clean, hygienic toilets," Balu said adding the smart class facility has attracted the attention of parents, who send their wards to the school. "We now have about 400 students," the headmaster said.
