A woman was killed in an accident close to Yadavindra Gardens, Pinjore, today as her hair got entangled in a go-kart while taking a ride. Her hair got severed from the scalp in the accident.
The victim has been identified as Puneet Kaur (28), a resident of Bathinda district.
The accident took place around 2 pm.
Puneet had come along with her husband Amarjeet Singh, a two-year-old son and other relatives. Singh is a farmer and both had come for sightseeing to Pinjore.
An amusement park, Aqua Village, has been set up near the gate of Yadavindra Gardens at Pinjore. It has been given to contractor Sushil Malik for 10 years on lease. He has been running it for the past four years.
Both Amarjeet and Puneet decided to take a ride in a go-kart. According to the police, her hair was open at the time of the accident.
The Haryana Police on Thursday booked the owner of a go-karting company after a woman died when her hair got entangled in the wheel of the go-kart.
The accident took place on Wednesday evening at a mini-amusement park adjacent to the popular Yadavindra Gardens in Pinjore in Haryana’s Panchkula district, around 20 km from here.
The owner of the amusement park Aqua Village, Sushil Malik, was on Thursday booked by the Haryana Police on charges of causing death by negligence. The park was closed for all activities on Wednesday evening.
Malik has claimed to police that all safety measures were taken by the park management.
The incident left everyone shocked and go-karting was stopped immediately. Meanwhile, Puneet was rushed to a private hospital in a critical condition, from where she was referred to General Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula. However, she was declared brought dead.
The victim’s husband, Amarjit Singh, was driving the go-kart while she was seated next to him. He stopped the go-kart car when she suddenly screamed.
Singh said that Puneet’s scalp was ripped apart within moments and she lost consciousness. She was rushed to a nearby private hospital but was referred to Panchkula as her condition was serious.
Though she was wearing a safety helmet at the time of the incident, it fell from her head and the hair got entangled in the car wheel.
Police is investigating if the safety gear was as per guidelines and if all safety precautions had been taken.
The couple, who have a two-year-old son, had stopped at the amusement park after driving up to Timber Trail resort in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh. They had come to Chandigarh from Bathinda district to attend a wedding in the family.
The Haryana Tourism Department had leased out the park to a private contractor in 2014 for a 10-year contract
“This incident has left everyone shocked,” said Yadavindra Gardens manager Neeraj Gupta. “Usually all safety measures are followed. One person has been tasked with ensuring that all people wear proper head gear and follow other rule before using a go-kart. It is shocking this incident happened.”
Gupta said the Haryana tourism department has leased out the amusement park to a private contractor for 10 years in 2013. “We have shut go-karting and have started a probe at departmental level,” he said.
