Gangster Gurpreet Kaka Who Shot Dead Man Last Diwali Arrested In Jalandhar

IANS, 09 Jan, 2019 01:53 AM

The counter-intelligence wing and rural police on Tuesday apprehended a gangster of the infamous Saini group of Gurdaspur, involved in the murder of a 27-year-old man and injuring two of his aides last Diwali.

The arrested gangster has been identified as Gurpreet alias Kaka, 20. An illegal pistol, live cartridges and two magazines were also seized.

In a press release, AIG Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that counter-intelligence wing Jalandhar has been keeping a close vigil on the activities of gangsters and other criminals active in Punjab.

He said the wing received a tip-off from one of its reliable sources that a gangster of the infamous Saini Group of Gurdaspur, wanted by police in many cases, is heading to Jalandhar by road and carrying some illegal weapons with him.

He added that acting swiftly on input, he immediately shared this information with SSP Jalandhar Rural Navjot Singh Mahal and a joint team was constituted to arrest the accused.

“The team carried out a search near Jallowal Chowk on National Highway Bhogpur and arrested Gurpreet when he tried to hide himself from the police party,” he said.

He revealed that during the preliminary interrogation, Gurpreet disclosed that he belongs to the infamous Saini gang of Dinanagar in Gurdaspur district.

The gang is headed by another absconded gangster, Devinder Saini.

“On Diwali last year, he along with his accomplice Devinder and others had allegedly shot dead Mukhwinder Singh when the latter was going to market for shopping along with his friends,” he added.

Khakh further told that the gangsters had opened fire out of which six bullets hit Mukhwinder Singh who succumbed later. He added that some friends of the victim also sustained bullet injuries.

The AIG further said a clash between the victim, his brother and Saini group before Diwali night turned into an enmity between them.

Khakh also stated that on the date of his death, it was second marriage anniversary of the deceased, Mukhwinder, and his wife was pregnant.

Gurdaspur police had already arrested some accused in the case but the main accused, Devinder Saini and Gurpreet Kaka, were on the run.
