Darpan News Desk IANS, 05 Mar, 2016 12:12 PM
A man was arrested in Punjab's Ropar on Saturday for allegedly hacking his teenaged minor daughter to death, after getting enraged when she came back late from school, police said.

The victim, Mehakdeep Kaur, was attacked with a sickle by her father on Friday evening.

She was rushed to the hospital in Chamkaur Sahib town and later referred to the PGIMER in Chandigarh where she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday.

The father, Balwinder Singh, gave up himself before the Chamkaur Sahib police in Ropar district, 50 km from here, said SHO Des Raj.

According to police, the girl, a student of class 11, went away with her friend after school and later went to her uncle's house. Her father, who came to pick her up, was not satisfied with her reply for coming late and attacked her on the way from Chamkaur Sahib to their village Gaggon.

The father was initially booked for attempt to murder which was later converted to murder after the victim passed away.
