Farmers stance firm with agriculture laws being repealed, farmers return to Delhi to protest

  • Farmers stance firm with agriculture laws being repealed, farmers return to Delhi to protest

The farmers protests have been ogoing since November and the farmers are more adamant than ever the the current BJP government  repeal the three agriculture laws. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha also wants a  legal guarantee from the government to put an end to the ongoing conflict with the government.

The SKM is calling farmers to protest in the capital Delhi, and at the border points of Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur once again.

India is seeing a surge in COVID19 cases with Delhi being the hardest hit with over close to 100,000 new cases reported on Tuesday.

The SKM head issued the statement “If the government is worried about the health of farmers, it should immediately repeal the three laws and make a new law on the MSP. This is the only solution where farmers can rollback the protest, otherwise, it will be getting stronger day by day,”

According to the SKM the Indian government  didn't consult farmer organisations, people living in rural areas, pro-farmer economists, political scientists or political parties, while creating laws that are deemed controversial by the farmers and are in violation of a UN declaration which grants rural dwellers a right on such issues.

The SKM has also alleged that the government instead of strengthening the farm sector is creating cheap labour in metropolitan areas through an agricultural crisis.

In a statement issued by the SKM, the farmers are not asking for anything new, they are only fighting to save what they have. In this battle of existence, they are fighting against both coronavirus and the government.

The SKM also went to say that the current government is not fulfilling its responsibilities at the time of the unprecented pandemic and is instead placing the blame on the  farmers.
