Delhi woman burnt by her live-in partner, succumbs to injuries

New Delhi, Feb 21 (IANS) A 28 year-old woman, who was set on fire by her live-in partner in Rohini area, succumbed to injuries during the treatment at a hospital in the national capital, said an official on Tuesday.
Police said that they have detained the live-in partner, identified as Mohit.
According to police, on February 11, an information was received at the Aman Vihar police station from the SGM Hospital that a woman has been admitted due to burn injuries.
"A police team reached the hospital, where the victim Monika (name changed), a resident of Balbir Vihar, was found unfit for statement.
Monika, who used to work as a labourer in a footwear factory, was shifted to the Safdarjung Hospital and then to AIIMS Trauma center for further treatment.
"During initial enquiry, the police team tasked with the investigation came to know that the victim had left her first husband and was living with Mohit since last six years in live-in relationship," said a senior police official.
She had two children, an 8-year-old son from her previous marriage and a 4-year-old daughter from present relationship.
The official said that on Monday she died during treatment at AIIMS trauma centre.
"Postmortem of the deceased has been conducted and on the basis of the statement given by her family members, a case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered," said the official.
In the complaint it has been alleged that on February 10 night the deceased had a fight with Mohit after she found him taking drugs at his friend's place.
"The accused Mohit had poured Tarpin oil over her and then lit fire due to which she got burnt and died during the treatment. Mohit had been detained," said the official, adding that further investigation is in progress.
Also on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on the occasion of Parakram Jayanti and said: "Today, on Parakram Diwas, I pay homage to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and recall his unparalleled contribution to India's history."
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Health Minister Balbir Singh said the inauguration program would be held in Amritsar on January 27. The Chief Minister will inaugurate the clinics, while AAP convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will attend the programme as the chief guest.
A police official said that during normal checking of vehicles on Sunday night in Imphal, two persons were apprehended and the drugs, smuggled from Myanmar, were recovered from their procession. The drug peddlers, identified as Md. Abdul Salam and Md. Wasim Akram, have been arrested under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The bodies of a married couple and their two children, aged three and 11, were found metres from the border on Jan. 19, 2022. Investigators have said they believe the deaths were linked to a human smuggling operation, and a man charged in the U.S. is to stand trial later this year.
A video showing the woman's ordeal has gone viral on social media in which she is seen lying on the ground in a public place. The incident took place on Thursday and the woman, identified as Kalpana, was "turned back without check-up".
The Chief Minister, while interacting with the media after reviewing the progress of development projects worth Rs 167 crore in the city, said it is ironic that the Maharajas in power were more concerned about their own development rather than that of the city. He said though Patiala was known as 'City of Gardens' but due to apathy of those in power, the city lost its shine in the last few years.
