Delhi Police arrest editor of NewsClick; seize phones, laptops of journos

Police in New Delhi, India have arrested the editor of a news website and its human resources chief after raiding the homes of journalists working for the site and seizing their laptops and cellphones.
NewsClick has been critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Hindu nationalist-led government.

India’s first woman astronaut late Kalpana Chawla’s father Banarasi Lal Chawla passed away at a private hospital in Haryana’s Karnal on Tuesday. He was 90. Chawla was undergoing treatment for the past few days. His body will be donated to the Kalpana Chawla Medical College in Karana, said the family.
Citing financial prudence and optimum utilisation of state resources, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday furnished complete details of every single penny spent by the government in past 18 months to Governor Banwarilal Purohit. In a letter to the Governor, Mann apprised that Rs 27,016 crore has been paid by state as payment of interest whereas Rs 10,208 crore have been utilised as capital expenditure.

In an initiative aimed at inculcating reading habits among the youth, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday dedicated 12 state-of-the-art libraries. "These 12 libraries are just a beginning and 16 more such libraries will be soon inaugurated," the Chief Minister said while addressing the gathering here.
Around 150 students from a residential school at Jharia in Jharkhand’s Pakur district, which is in close proximity to the Bengal-Bihar borders, were admitted to a local hospital in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. The students were admitted on Wednesday night as they reportedly complained about feeling uneasy after having the dinner.
