Delhi court extends Aaftab's judicial custody by 14 days

New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS) The Saket Court on Tuesday extended the judicial custody of Aaftab Amin Poonawala, accused of murdering his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar, by another 14 days.
Poonawala was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Aviral Shukla, during which he demanded law books to study.
The court also directed the prison authorities to provide him with warm clothes.
On January 6, Poonawala moved an application in the court seeking release of his debit and credit cards, citing need for funds to purchase day-to-day items, as well as warm clothes.
Shukla had extended his judicial custody for four more days and ordered to physically produce him in the court on January 10.
Poonawala's application moved through his advocate sought to release funds from his bank account citing that he didn't have enough warm clothes to counter the winter chill inside the prison.
On December 23, 2022, the court had extended his judicial custody by 14 days.
The previous day, Poonawala had withdrawn his bail plea, claiming that he had applied for bail erroneously.
On December 17, he had claimed that he signed the 'vakalatnama', but did not know about filing a bail application.
Aaftab allegedly killed Shraddha on May 18 last year chopped her body into 35 pieces and dumped them at various places over a period of 18 days.
Addressing the media here, the SAD President said it was extremely unfortunate that the SGPC, an inter-state body, had been bifurcated by recognising a state legislation even though the power to make law on this issue was reserved with the Centre.
Emphasising speedy purchase, the Chief Minister directed that purchase, lifting, and payment should commence from the first day of procurement itself and warned of strict action if any farmer is put to any inconvenience.
On late evening of Sunday, during the course of security check of baggage of the outgoing international passengers by airline's staff on x-ray machine at international departure at SGRDJI Airport, Amritsar, some suspicious images in a bag were observed. According to media reports, Mann, who was on a eigh-day trip to Germany till September 18, delayed his departure as he was reportedly in 'an inebriated state'. However, AAP has strongly denied the charge, saying Mann was not deplaned at the Frankfurt airport. The party termed it as false and frivolous propaganda by political rivals.
