Congress Leader Jagsir Singh Booked For Gunning Down Brother Over A Property Dispute

IANS, 03 Jul, 2018 09:37 PM
Punjab Congress secretary Jagsir Singh allegedly murdered his brother over a property dispute at Mangewala village in the district on Monday, the police said. The deceased was identified as Jasvir Singh (42).

A preliminary investigation revealed that the dispute had started after the death of the brothers’ father, Sukhdev Singh Mangewala, a few years ago. Mangewala served as the chairman of the Moga district central cooperative bank and had unsuccessfully contested the 1992 Assembly elections from the Baghapurana constituency.

Jagmeet Singh, son of the deceased, said he and Jasvir were travelling in a car when they were intercepted by Jagsir. “Jagsir started abusing my father. After a heated exchange, my uncle took out a revolver and fired at my father. The bullet hit his shoulder. We took him to the district hospital, where he succumbed to injuries,” he said.

SP (investigation) Vazir Singh, DSP (city) Kesar Singh and other police officials visited the spot. The SP (investigation) said a case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and provisions of the Arms Act had been registered against Jagsir, his wife Satwinder Kaur and their son Manjinder Singh.

A hunt has been launched to nab the absconding trio, the police said.

The body has been kept at the district hospital. It will be handed over to the family members after a post-mortem examination.
