CM condoles death of Goan shot dead in Texas store

Panaji, March 22 (IANS) Goad Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday expressed sorrow at the killing of a 27-year-old man from the state in US' Texas.
He said that the state's Commissioner for NRI affairs was in touch with the Indian consulate in Texas to co-ordinate the return of the mortal returns of John Dias to his home in Chandor village in South Goa.
"Saddened by the tragic incident in USA leading to the death of young Goan John Dias from Cuncolim. I express my heartfelt condolences to the family. May God give them strength to bear this irreparable loss," Sawant said in a tweet.
"The office of the Commissioner for NRI Affairs Goa is already in touch with the Consulate General of India, Houston, USA for seeking their assistance for bringing the mortal remains of late John Dias to Goa, so that his family can have the funeral in Goa," he added.
Dias, who worked in a departmental store in Texas, was shot dead at close range in the store on Sunday.
The police recovered 1.1 kg of gold, 1.9 kg of silver articles and a bike from the accused persons. The arrested persons are identified as Karate Seena a.k.a Srinivas, Kokkare Satish and Tejas, all residents of north Bengaluru.
In February, last year, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs had informed the Supreme Court that the Tamil Nadu Governor has recorded that the President of India is the competent authority to deal with pardon plea of A.G. Perarivalan, one of the convicts in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
All Indian students who were stuck in Sumy area of war-torn Ukraine have been successfully airlifted through Operation Ganga, the government said on Monday. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that they had apprehensions but their mission to evacuate Indian students was successful.

The price of crude oil in the international market has reached $117 per barrel. According to experts, if the Russia-Ukraine war continues, then crude oil prices could reach $ 185 per barrel.
"Under 'Operation Ganga' to rescue Indian citizens, 1,314 Indians have been airlifted today by seven special civilian flights from Ukraine's neighbouring countries. With this, more than 17,400 Indians have been brought back since the special flights began on 22nd February, 2022."
