Charges Laid After Two Police Cars Destroyed, Officers Hurt In Crash

The Canadian Press, 27 Apr, 2018 11:27 AM
NANAIMO, B.C. — Two men from Nanaimo, B.C., are accused of using a Dodge pick-up truck as a weapon in a crash that destroyed two police vehicles and injured two officers.

RCMP say an officer in an unmarked police vehicle approached the truck Wednesday morning and the suspect driver allegedly drove directly at the vehicle, onto its hood, then continued along the road.

Moments later, the truck allegedly drove up and onto another unmarked police car, getting stuck in the hood and windshield in the process.

The driver of the truck and his passenger fled on foot, but the Mounties say they were arrested within minutes.

Const. Gary O'Brien says both officers involved in the incident are sore and taking a few days off to mend as a precautionary measure.

Thirty-two-year-old Majore Jackson and 47-year-old Andrew Bellwood have been charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property and obstruction.

The pair was scheduled to appear before a judge on Thursday to determine if they should remain in jail or released with conditions.
